Biography

I was born and raised in Hastings Minnesota. I graduated from Hastings high school in 1995 where I played baseball, football and basketball.

Fall of 1995 I began undergraduate at Central College in Pella Iowa where I minored in Spanish and graduated with a BA degree. While at Central I played baseball, football and soccer. I also participated on the Mock Trial team and was awarded All American Honors in the National Intercollegiate Mock Trial Tournament. This nomination promoted me to participation in the All American Honors Trial. I was actively involved in campus activities and community service through the Greek (fraternity) community.

In the summer before my sophomore year at Central I secured an internship in Minneapolis as a juvenile probation officer. I enjoyed helping the kids and really cemented my desire to be involved in the criminal justice system. As I neared graduation at Central I saw a posting for an exclusive internship in Rockville MD in their public defender’s office as an investigator. Investigating cases in and around the Washington DC area and being more directly involved in indigent defense only strengthened my desire to go to law school and become a public defender. I knew I wanted to be a criminal defense attorney and fight the government and defend the Constitution.

After graduation and the summer in DC I was awarded a one year fellowship in Governor Ryan’s Office in the state of Illinois. Here, I gained valuable insight and behind the scenes knowledge about how government does, or frankly, doesn’t work. I was involved with legislation that helped change illegal possession of certain weapons from a misdemeanor back to a felony.

In 2000 I gained admission to Denver University College of Law. While there I participated in Mock Trial and was President of the Criminal Law Association, which helped coordinate various functions and speakers for the student body and faculty. I also had the opportunity to study comparative law in Vienna, Austria. During law school I clerked for a criminal defense attorney as well as the public defenders office.

Since my admission to the bar I have dealt exclusively in the criminal defense arena. During this time I have represented thousands of clients – numerous misdemeanor and felony trials ranging from traffic, DUI, domestic, theft, serious assaults, sex assaults, double homicide – first degree murder, drugs/distribution, menacing/weapons offenses.

In 2016 I joined the team at McCormick & Kennedy, P. C. in Boulder Colorado. Where I continue to fight for my clients.

In my spare time I play amateur baseball and currently manage and play on 18+ woodbat team in Denver. I also enjoy traveling, music/concerts, food/wine and helping people navigate through the justice system.
